Rajapakse Govt.’s wonderful assistance to soldiers
- R s. 2000/- from maimed soldiers‘ salary and Rs. 4000/- from widows’ pensions deducted
(Lanka-e-News, Dec. 04, 2009, 8.50PM) A sum of Rs. 2000/- Is being deducted from the monthly salaries of those soldiers who are maimed and disabled owing to the war. A sum of Rs. 4000/- is being deducted from the widows and orphans pension of those soldiers who died in the war. These deductions have been started recently.

These deductions are being made on the basis of the circular Nos. 06/ 2008 and 07/2009 of 20th Feb. 2009 o fteh Govt. which have been circulated among Ministry Secretaries, PC Gen. Secretaries, Dept. Heads, District Secretaries, Provincial secretaries and the Chiefs of the Three Forces.
The maimed soldiers and the widows of the dead soldiers have written to the President explaining that these deductions are heavy burden on their livelihood and therefore to stop these deductions. The welfare Association of the Forces has also written to the President pinpointing that theses deductions are unfair. These deductions have commenced two months ago.

Anuradhapura District UNP MP Harrison speaking to the media today (4) at Colombo revealed these details. Even from some maimed soldiers and their widows, their dues too are recovered from their salaries, he added.
