Corruption continues unabated – Rs. 25 million spent to renovate VIP Bungalow

A VIP’s Bungalow in Embilipitiya had been renovated at a cost of Rs. 25.3 million early this year in flagrant violation of Govt.’s financial regulations (FR) . The Auditor General’s Dept. ad made this discovery.
Nearly one million rupees had been spent on wasteful purchases. Rs. 970, 165/- has been spent to buy grass for the overhead helipad installed in the Bungalow. Another Rs. 181,350/- has been wasted on purchase of grass which was never used.


Even in the purchase of air conditioners and household goods massive discrepancies and alleged frauds have been detected.


The AG’s Dept .added that there have been gross violations of the FR , while this project had not even been included in the UDA work plan for 2009 , a mandatory requirement when making such renovations
