While the President Rajapakse is now a bundle of confusion following the sudden change of events in the political scenario after the media began splashing news that General Sarath Fonseka is coming forward as the common candidate for the next Presidential elections , the information and media Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa yesterday (19) at a Cabinet news briefing made an announcement which further underscored the desperation of the Govt., when he invited the UNPers to join the Govt.
Even now the Govt. is mostly run by the UNP ers who were enticed by the Govt. two years ago, and are now holding important portfolios in the Govt.
It is the consensus of all that the President has got so shaken that he is unable to announce whether it is the General or Presidential elections which will be held first , even after the Govt. Ministers openly stated the President will make an announcement on elections at the SLFP convention held last 15th.
The beleaguered Govt. is looking for desperate remedies for its desperate problems.
