SL’s corruption explosion worse than volcanic eruption -97th in corruption perception index

The latest corruption Perception index (CPI) published in the Transparency Int. (TI) annual report has placed SL in the 97th position out of 180 countries . In other words , SL ‘s corruption eruption has become worse than last year when it was placed in the 92nd slot.
The TI director Weliammuna expressed deep regret over the situation because SL has never cared to take any steps to eradicate corruption. Half of the Parliament are Ministers , so when attempts are made to address this issue there is a conflict of interests. Among the five remedial proposals suggested was first, to strengthen Parliament. Second, the right to information of the public on public finance or expenditure being stifled militates against combating corruption. Third, from the highest to the lowest there is no political will to stamp out this menace. Fourth , the harsh controlling of media freedom , whereby people have no voice. Fifth, integration of public Institutions must be improved ., Weliammuna pinpointed.
