At the UNP special Executive Committee meeting yesterday (26),UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe announced that the UNP has decided to support Gen. Sarath Fonseka as the common candidate for the forthcoming Presidential elections.
He therefore urged the UNP and all allied parties to support General Fonseka to the hilt at the forthcoming Presidential elections , adding that he expects every one to give of their utmost to make General Fonseka as the next President of SL.
Answering a question raised by the media about the Tamil minority interests , Ranil said , all minorities including Tamils, Muslims , Burghers will be protected and given their due place.
At a well attended press conference , UNP M.Ps including UNP deputy Leader Karu Jayasooriya , local and foreign media representatives participated.
