My aim is to counter dictatorship , corruption and violence- Gen. Fonseka

Addressing the National Lawyers Association at Hotel Galadari yesterday (27) , General Sarath Fonseka said he was now in a new role as a politician and not a soldier. He emphasized that initially he had no idea of taking to politics , but the dismal state of affairs in the country made him think in the direction of politics and save the country in the same way as it was saved from the LTTE terrorists.

The General made it abundantly clear that his goals are to counter dictatorship , violence and corruption . He is contesting the upcoming Presidential election with these goals in view , and to safeguard Democracy and media rights . He therefore urged all to lend their support to him at the forthcoming elections to realize these goals.

Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe also speaking on the occasion said, the National Lawyers association is one of the oldest legal Associations, and he too was in it from inception. Several parties have today rallied round the UNP including the JVP with the sole aim of protecting the country from being plunged into doom further .General Eisenhower came to politics in the hour of his country’s need . General Fonseka has also come to politics at the crucial hour to save the country from the road to perdition under the present rulers.
