President sheds his fears at last and makes Presidential election announcement

The long awaited announcement on elections was at last made by the President Mahinda Rajapakse yesterday evening (23). The President and the Govt. had been giving a number of promises earlier of making the announcement, but they did not materialize until yesterday. The opposition too kept on alleging that the President has got frightened after Gen. Fonseka insinuated that he too will be a Presidential candidate for the next Presidential elections.
The Elections Commissioner has been asked to carry out the follow up action including announcement of date for nominations and elections.
