People are protesting because of false promises of politicians – Malwatte Mahanayake says

The leaders of the new Alliance , United National Front led by the UNP met the Mahanayakes of the Malwatte and Asgiriya chapters yesterday (15) to receive their blessings. The Malwatte Mahanayake who met them ,regretted that it is because politicians are giving false promises that people are compelled to protest .
Leader of the UNP and opposition was accompanied by the leaders of the constituent parties , SLFP (M) leader Mangala Samaraweera, SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem , Deputy Leader and Gen secretary of the UNP Karu Jayasooriya and Rauff Hakeem respectively, and others .Mr. Wickremesinghe explained to the Mahanayakes that the new Alliance was formed to save the country and march forward uniting all the people and safeguard Democracy.

The Malwatte Mahanayake said , a strong opposition is vital if Democracy is to flourish. The Mahanayake agreed that the Executive Presidency does not suit SL , when Mr. Wickremesinghe told him that in their UNF program , abolition of Executive Presidency claims priority . The PC system is also being used to give jobs to political stooges, not for the benefit of the people , he lamented.
